About this parish:
The town of Timmins was founded in 1912 by Noah Timmins, constructed to house miners. In 1973 the city amalgamated with 14 surrounding communities. The population of Timmins is of approximately 45,000 people. Predominantly English and French, Timmins is a growing multi-cultural city. Canada’s largest municipality in land area until 1995, and the largest municipality in Ontario until 2001, Timmins is currently the 69th largest metropolitan area in Canada. St. Matthew’s Cathedral was originally built in 1913, and has gone through many changes since. The most recent change being the installation of a new steeple cross. There is a full-time nursery and church school at the Cathedral.
The Cathedral offers a Community Lunch every Friday between 12-1, all are welcome to attend.
